History of Colusa County Grown
The Colusa County Resource Conservation District (CCRCD) began work in early 2012 to develop and launch Colusa County Grown (CCG) through a USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP) grant. The goal of CCG is to promote Colusa County agricultural products using two strategies: a cohesive and recognizable brand for locally grown products and a consumer education campaign that highlights the benefits of purchasing local healthy food. The original focus of the project through the FMPP grant was to enhance the Farm-to-Fork movement in Colusa County through outlets such as farmers markets, farm stands, agritourism, Community Supported Agriculture, and internet sales. The CCRCD received funding in late 2014 to expand and enhance CCG with a focus on promoting Specialty Crops. The Colusa County Grown-Specialty Crop project is funded through the Specialty Crop Block Grant program at the US Department of Agriculture.
Who we are today
Today Colusa County Grown has a 3 member board of directors, appointed by the CCRCD, that is made up of active community members and agricultural producers. They understand what it means to live, work, and play in Colusa County and what it means to their friends and neighbors. It is CCRCD’s goal to expand to expand this board utilizing membership input.
Colusa County Grown aims to promote all of Colusa County Agriculture, and to strengthen the connection between farmer and consumer in our county and behyond. This is done by providing a membership program that is open to anyone who wants to show their support for local agriculture and their community. This membership program offers many benefits, such as a recognizable logo for our members to use, a sign showing support, access to educational workshops and speakers, discounts to events, increased marketability, and much more. Additionally, we hope for our program to be able to offer benefits to the public, such as workshops, providing volunteers, educational materials, and more.
